What the Robot Replaces
Event photography used to mean a hired photographer working the room. The client got a gallery a week later, picked twenty frames and dropped them into a newsletter. Most guests never saw any of it.
A booth changes who the pictures are for. The guest walks up, poses, and has the file on their phone before they’ve finished their drink. Then they post it, usually with the event’s branding somewhere in the frame, and that post is what the organiser was really paying for. Many booths hand over the picture by email, text message or QR code, and the first two leave the organiser with a contact list as a bonus.
The booth also takes the photographer’s judgment out of the loop. Everyone gets the same flattering light from the same ring at the same height, every time. For a brand that’s a feature. Nobody ends up with an unflattering picture of themselves tagged next to the company’s logo.
The robot body is mostly theatre. A tripod and a tablet would take the same picture. A humanoid holding a screen is something people point their own phones at from across the terrace, though, and a queue at a party pulls in more people.
Where the Photographer Still Wins
The booth only sees whoever walks up to it. It misses the speech, the toast, and the two executives who finally agreed on something by the bar. Organisers who drop the photographer altogether tend to find out afterwards that they own hundreds of posed pictures and none of the event actually happening.
So on rooftops like this one the likely answer is both. The robot does the volume. Somebody with a camera does the story, and that includes a picture of the robot.
